New Look Vimeo 2012

There is absolutely no question about the simple fact that WE LOVE VIMEO!!  Don’t get us wrong, we are fans of Googles YouTube too, but Vimeo is an entity on to it self. This is what they say about them selves

“Vimeo is a respectful community of creative people who are passionate about sharing the videos they make. Use Vimeo if you want the best tools and highest quality video in the universe.”

And it is very true!

We never really cared about the aesthetics of the Vimeo web site. Quite frankly it wasn’t important.  What was, is and always will be important, is the quality of the video or film playback.  YouTube boasts full HD 1080p and while some would question the accuracy of this claim, it is certainly of a very high quality, certainly more than sufficient for the web.  But when the creative types put their hours of blood and sweat in to shooting what are in many cases mini masterpieces, and even more hours in to the editing and timing of these masterpieces, they really want it to look more than sufficient, in fact, they want it to look amazing.  This is where Vimeo truly delivers.

Vimeo have, this week, started to roll out their new look web site.  Take a look here at what it has looked like for ever.

Simplistic enough, some late 90′s to early noughties colouring.  Over all, fairly un-eventful.  But it didn’t have to be eventful.  It was ideal.

Now have a peek at the new look for the same page.

Quite a difference, yes?  We like it, in fact we love it.  Almost as much as we love Vimeo.  For the moment, you can choose to remain with the old design or change to the newer and certainly more modern design.  How long this will be a possibility? We don’t know.

Now! Design and looks are one thing, but more important are the functionalities of the whole she-bang.  Vimeo have made some instantly noticable changes here too.

“What’s so new about the new Vimeo?

In short: pretty much everything. We made zillions of improvements that cover the front end, the back end, and the parts in between to create a Vimeo that is bigger, faster, smarter, and more fun.”

The default video playback screen is bigger and better.  The navigation menu is, well, just cooler and more semantic, if that’s even possible.

They have even included voice search!

The channels have also changed, We could be wrong, but We think that they may have lost a little bit of their custom stylings, but so what if it were true!

There are still a couple of little things that they, we assume, are working on.  Yesterday for example we couldn’t access our embed options.  But, all in all, we welcome the new look, the new feel to the good old Vimeo.

If your reading this and asking your self, “Vimeo?”  Shame on you!
