Avast! MyWOT? Huh?
If you don’t know what a browser is, as many people don’t, it’s the piece of software you use to view pages on the Internet. There are many browsers to choose from, but chances are that you are using Internet Explorer if your on a PC, or Safari on a Mac.
Over time many Internet users discover other browsers, like Google Chrome, which is offered on the Google Home page as a free download. Or Firefox which has been a long time favourite for many users.
No matter which browser you use, you need to add some security to it, because there are still lots of users that surf the web to download freebies or what they think are freebies.
Ever since the mid 1990′s access to free and open source software has always been a high priority to the end user. And the quality of most of these open source eGifts is at best questionable for the most part. However, there are some that offer exceptional quality. Some that many people use every day, Google Chrome and Firefox are just some examples of great quality open source software. Anyway, this article is not on open source software that’s for another post.
One of the issues that millions of people come across whilst downloading and installing free software is that a lot of the time they are not just installing their chosen software, but are in fact installing unwanted extras along with. Unwanted extras like malware and spyware. Many even download virusus, especially from torrents sites, which you should just stay away from for an easy life.
Enter Web of Trust a FREE piece of software that indicates the safety and reputation of a site by displaying a colored circle on the search engine results page (SERP).
A red circle is usually an indicator that would suggest to you not to enter that site, a yellow circle is somewhat of a warning, but a green circle is MyWOT’s way of giving you the thumbs up.
Web of Trust or MyWOT also display a circle at the top of the browser for what ever page you are on, again using the same color indicators.
Enter AVAST! Avast is by far our favourite piece of Anti-virus software, why? well for starters, it’s free for personal use and the professional version is not as expensive, and certainly not as annoying as many other paid Anti-virus software. But not only does it protect your PC/Mac, but it too displays an indicator on your SERPs and in your browser for whatever page you are on.
Avast is also available for free on Android devices.
It is also worth mentioning here that the Google Chrome Browser has its own security features built in that will alert you before you enter a site of questionable reputation, and we would highly recommend Chrome as a browser not just for this but for many reasons.
We use all three!
If you are using something similar to either Avast and or MyWot, please let us know and tell us all about it. Any way! Safe browsing.
